I’ve ventured to local hills in recent months. With their popularity growing as the sun brightened towards midsummer, I’ve wandered some heathland that’s new to me. Ramblers and dog walkers are tiny specks of colour in the distance. The expanse draws me in each time and surrounds me. Staring at trees move in the wind, it offers a broader view than the garden, where wildlife is thriving and flowers are blooming.
Running errands and visiting kindred has dropped to a lull, with lockdown. Missing these landmarks, I’ve been enjoying one book and TV show at a time, before choosing another. That, along with work and chores, gives rhythm and variety. Different subjects in Home Education give each day a theme. We’ve tried new recipes; highlights have been mint chocolate fudge and jackfruit enchiladas.
In July, family visits to gardens, at a safe distance, and regular walks are nourishing my love of Earth; that longing to wander beyond the boundaries of homestead. Each time I walk in different directions to explore, stumbling upon wildflowers or a different vista, to breathe in the green and blue.
