I began the Kiss Me Cupcakes Book Club with a flat white and chocolate brownie. Start as you mean to go on 🙂 The latest issue of Positive News – an uplifting current affairs magazine – and Satish Kumar’s Soil, Soul, Society were my bring-a-longs. The latter is a great follow-on read to Earth Pilgrim; by the same author.
Steven A McKay’s novel Wolf’s Head – the first in the Forest Lord series – looked intriguing. The author’s take on the Robin Hood mythology (something that has fascinated me since I was a kid), sounds a riveting read. Brer Rabbit’s A Rascal short story collection by Enid Blyton brought out the nostalgia in us. The ink illustrations are beautiful in themselves and generations on, they make fun reads.
Author ES Moxon shared flyers for Writer’s Grove; a writing group she runs that is now in its third year. Anyone with an interest in the creative process and based in the Midlands, can find out more HERE. The group is meeting monthly as of 2020 (due to popularity) and refreshments are included. There is opportunity for critique, writing news and a topic for each session. Drop along – they’re a welcoming bunch.
Conversation began with the books present, venturing into space with talk of Planetarium (one of a book collection that features stunning artwork). We hopscotched our way through local events, creative plans and reading piles that magically grow. Between the music, comfy chairs and tea that flowed, it was a great start to the weekend and new year!
The next KMC BOOK CLUB is 10.00am – 11.30am on Saturday 21st March 2020 (with more dates to come). The club is free and open to people aged 16+. Bring a library book, new purchase or old favourite and feed the need to read 🙂
